The Paraiso estate encompasses 400 acres in Monterey's rugged Santa Lucia Mountains. For this exceptional Pinot, fruit was chosen from Blocks Four and Five, planted to thirty year old “Martini” clone vines; some newer plantings of “Dijon” clones from Block Seven were included for additional complexity. The hillside alluvial terraces here are comprised of porous loamy soils and boast a true Region I microclimate— optimal conditions for growing this noble Burgundian varietal.
This special wine from a special vintage demonstrates the power and finesse of Pinot Noir from the Santa Lucia Highlands: rich cherry/plum fruit accented by nuances of nutmeg, pepper, smoke, and vanilla. The wine’s perfectly poised fruit/acid balance makes it incredibly food-versatile. The Paraiso Pinot is a wonderful complement to roast fowl and grilled salmon, as well as almost any duck, beef , or lamb preparation.
